John Jarkis may only have two runners at The Meadows on Saturday night, but they are both winning hopes for the Lang Lang trainer.
In Race 3, Joyful looks poised to make it back-to-back wins. The daughter of Zambora Brockie and Pechey brings consistent form into the race, including a last start 30.28 victory at The Meadows, when she led throughout off Box 2.
“I’d rather she was drawn a bit closer to the rails, but she’s going well and I’m happy with her progress. She’s a good each-way chance as long as she can stay out of trouble,” says Jarkis.
Meanwhile, Opal Beach also looks a leading contender in Race 7. The talented chaser has an outstanding strike-rate, accruing 20 wins from 71 starts and over $71,000 in prizemoney so far. He recently had three weeks off racing and resumed at Sandown last week, where he led throughout to score in 29.96, paying $33.90 on the tote.
“I actually didn’t think it was much of an upset last week – it was more a matter of whether or not he’d find the lead, and he drove hard and managed to do that.
“I expect him to be on the pace again on Saturday and I’ll be crossing my fingers that he can hold on.”
