Portland trainer Nicole Stanley rates Midget Rocks her best of the day at The Meadows on Wednesday. She is drawn to suit in Box 2 in Race 9, and led throughout from Box 1 at Sandown last start, winning in 30.00.
“I think she likes the inside – she rails quite well. She went well last time, and with a bit of luck, she should go well on Wednesday,” says Nicole.
Nicole’s partner, Neville Lenehan, has Hostile Savage lining up in Race 3, where he’s come up with Box 2.
“He probably needs a look at the track, but has been going okay,” says Nicole.
In Race 5, Close Your Eyes has come up with Box 7. Much of her recent racing has been over 600m, and she steps up to 725m for the first time on Wednesday.
“She’ll run the trip out, but she’s just a timid little girl!” laughs Nicole.
“She needs quite a few looks at a track before she’s confident. She’s been to The Meadows a few times now, and has been trialling well.”
In Race 11, Aston Prestige looks a strong winning chance, off the back of his all-the-way 29.96 win at Sandown last start.
“Hopefully he can get across from Box 7. He’s still learning and getting it all together – I’m hoping for a clear run for him,” says Nicole.
In Race 12, Oscar The Scout has drawn Box 3. He’s been slow away in his past couple of races at Sandown, but was impressive winning at Warrnambool three starts ago on 8 June, when he powered to the line to win in 25.69 from Box 4.
“He plays up in the boxes a bit, so is a bit hit or miss at box rise. It depends on if he jumps.”
