Speed battle vital in distance race

The run to the first turn will be ultra important in Saturday’s Mixed 4/5 725m event at The Meadows, featuring Group 3 Speed Star winner Dyna Chancer and in-form stayer Blue Shadows.

What the field lacks in size (six runners) is certainly made up by the quality in the race, with the six runners combining for prize money totalling over $550,000. And the battle to the judge the first time is certainly intriguing.

Dyna Chancer (box five) adopted the catch-me-if-you-can persona when finishing a gallant second to Tornado Tears in a heat of The Fireball recently, and will be looking to assert his presence early in the race, but he has his challengers.

Blue Shadows (box one) recently recorded a fast first split of 4.87 on his way to an all-the-way 42.52 win around the Broadmeadows circuit on August 3, while She Will Bloom (box eight) led all the way over the half-mile trip at Sandown recently, running an impressive 41.89.

The trio certainly do their best staying work when being allowed to bowl along in front, so the greyhound that can find the top early will hold the key to winning the tenth race on Saturday’s quality program.
