There are more than 75,0000 things you can do with $75,000, but there is one thing 24-year-old Correy Grenfell doesn’t have on his mind – how to spend money he hasn’t earnt.
Saturday night at The Meadows, Grenfell and his talented stayer Dyna Chancer have the opportunity to claim their first Group race title in the Topgun Stayers. A difficult feat made that little bit easier by the injury induced absence of Australia’s staying superstar brothers Tornado Tears and Rippin’ Sam.
“There is no doubt it gives Dyna Chancer a big chance heading into the Topgun Stayers without Tornado Tears and Rippin’ Sam but saying that it isn’t going to be easy. There are some good stayers in the race including Poco Dorado who has won his past five starts, all over 700-metres,” Correy Grenfell said.
Dyna Chancer has drawn box seven and Grenfell thinks he is ideally suited in the wide box.
“I have always liked him from out wide. There isn’t any pace on his outside, so it would be good to see him use the space and find the lead.”
“He is going in a little underdone after competing in the Million Dollar Chase series over 500-metres at Wentworth Park and his trial over the 600-metres at The Meadows on Saturday night was a bit disappointing, but he will be better for the run.”
Grenfell and his wife Sam have competed in seven Group races together and have come within lengths of life changing amounts of money.
“You head into big races thinking you are a good chance, you think of the possibilities and how 30 seconds could change the direction of your lives,” Grenfell said.
Dyna Chancer isn’t Grenfell’s only chance at big money this weekend, he also has Orson Allen engaged in the Pet Panels Geelong Gold Cup as the $2.25 favourite.
“The Geelong Cup is the first feature Orson Allen has drawn close to the rails which really suits him, especially because there is no pace on his immediate outside but there is a lot of speed from Speed Star, Italian Plastic, Emerald Rainbow and Dyna Hunter.”
