Brilliant brothers headline G3 Topcat Video final

Dynamic duo Tornado Tears and Rippin’ Sam are headline acts for the Group 3 Topcat Video final over 725 metres at The Meadows this Saturday night.

The brothers – both trained by Robert Britton in Lara – are fresh off devastating victories in Sunday’s Speed Star series at Sandown, with Rippin’ Sam running the third fastest time ever over the 715-metre trip (41.25).  The white and brindle chaser will start from box five in Saturday’s $25,000-to-the-winner final, and will be looking to finish ahead of his much-decorated brother for the first time in eight attempts.

Tornado Tears will be aiming to make it 10 wins from his last 11 starts after drawing box seven in the weekend’s final, with the white and black chaser fresh off an amazing 33.67 gallop over the 595-metre trip at Sandown last Sunday night. The son of Fernando Bale and Tears Siam has been successful on five occasions at Group level, including an outstanding victory at The Meadows in July (Group 3 Destini Fireball Stayers in 42.02). Victory on Saturday night would make Tornado Tears the 29th greyhound in Australian history to earn over $500,000 in prizemoney.

The brothers – two of three finalists for Britton (Barcali the other) – will face off against other highly-talented chasers, including Ella Enchanted, who has drawn beautifully in box one. The daughter of Don’t Knocka Him and Ella Lezah has built up a very nice middle-distance record, and will race over the half-mile trip for the first time in her 26-start career in what is clearly a huge initiation.

Saturday’s Group final will be the start of a huge month at The Meadows, with three Group events set down for October, including the Group 1 Topgun, Group 2 Topgun Stayers and Group 2 Great Chase.
