Brilliant speedster Poke The Bear looks to be back to his best after a sensational 29.46 gallop over 525 metres at The Meadows on Saturday night.
The son of Fernando Bale and Nicki Fields began cleanly off box one, recording fast splits of 5.02 and 17.60 before running home in a breathtaking 11.86 to record the fastest time of the year at the Broadmeadows circuit. Boom youngster Dyna Patty was gallant in defeat, running 29.79 – almost five lengths behind the Traralgon Cup winner.
The winning time of 29.464 is only a length and a half behind Allen Deed’s time standard over 525 metres, with the son of Jarvis Bale and Greta Bale recording a time of 29.376 back in January, 2015.
Poke The Bear’s win was the 17th of his career from just 28 starts, pushing his prizemoney to $142,810.
