Fanta Bale: Destiny awaits champion chaser

Road to Riches FANTA BALE

The fairytale career of Fanta Bale looks set for another memorable chapter after becoming the first greyhound in history to receive invites to all three Group 1 races on February 17 – the first night of the Australian Cup Carnival.

Connections of the champion chaser will make the decision to race in either of the invitation-only events, including the Group 1 Temlee (525m), Group 1 Rookie Rebel (600m) and the Group 1 Zoom Top (725m).

In last year’s Australian Cup Carnival, the daughter of David Bale and Ucme Typhoon took out the Rookie Rebel before winning heat and final of The Meadows’ flagship race – the $550,000 Australian Cup. Victory in the Group 3 TopCat Video Cup later in the year meant that Fanta Bale became the first greyhound to win Group finals over all three distances at the Broadmeadows circuit.

Trained by Robert Britton, the black flash also finds herself around $117,000 shy of Fernando Bale’s Australian prizemoney record. Another successful Australian Cup Carnival could see Fanta Bale add over $150,000 to her current prizemoney total of $1,182,975.

The Australian Cup Carnival is the world’s biggest greyhound spectacle, with over $1.2 million to be won over the famous three-week period (Feb 17, 24 and March 3). The Carnival includes the running of the $550,000 Group 1 Australian Cup, the Group 1 Super Stayers, the Group 1 Temlee, Rookie Rebel and Zoom Top and the Group 3 Vic Breeders for maidens, worth $25,000 to the winner.

As always, the entertainment on course will be one of the highlights, and there’s also over $60,000 in cash and prizes to be won over the three weeks. Click on below links for more info on all three nights of the $1.3 million Australian Cup Carnival.
