Champion chasers Burn One Down and Fanta Bale headline two quality heats of Saturday night’s Group 3 TopCat Video Cup series over 725 metres at The Meadows.
The duo – clearly recognised as the two best half-milers in Australia – need to finish in the top four in their respective heats to meet in yet another Group final, the last of which saw the guns quinella the Group 1 National Distance Championship at Albion Park on August 25.
Fanta Bale, who lines up from box four in the first heat, is getting closer to becoming the third greyhound to win over $1 million in prizemoney after recently ticking over the $900,000 mark after her 42.27 win at Wentworth Park on September 13. The daughter of David Bale and Ucme Typhoon – a winner of 29 races from just 45 starts – will take on the likes of impressive NSW chaser Packey Keeping and South Australian raider Purpose Driven, already a winner of 20 races.
Burn One Down is fresh off his dominant Speed Star Stayers Challenge victory and returns to the Broadmeadows circuit with the enviable record of 11 wins and two seconds from just 14 starts over the 725-metre trip. He will also be out to secure back-to-back victories in the Group 3 TopCat Video Cup after a sensational 42.33 victory in last year’s version – one of four Group wins at The Meadows. The son of Buck Fever and Fancy Jaffa will start from box two in the second heat against Group 3 Destini Fireball runner up Mick’s Angel (box one) and last week’s 725-metre Handicap winner Cadalora (box five).
The top four placegetters from Saturday’s heats will progress to September 30′s final, worth $25,000 to the winner.
Burn One Down wins last year’s G3 TopCat Video Cup. Can he go back-to-back?
