Space Star aims for hat-trick of Group 1 wins

Staying sensation Space Star will be aiming to win a hat-trick of Group 1 events as the $185,000 Superstayers series kicks off at The Meadows this Saturday night.

The son of Bekim Bale and Tonto Tears is fresh off victories in the Group 1 Galaxy and Group 1 Zoom Top, where he bounded away to score by over six lengths in 42.05 – just .03 outside the 725-metre track record set by Nellie Noodles in April, 2010.

Trained by Robert Britton, Space Star will jump from box one in the first of the four Group 1 Superstayers heats.

First and second placegetters will progress to the Group 1 Superstayers final – worth $100,000 to the winner – on March 7 (Group 1 ATC Australian Cup night).

Heat highlights include:

Heat one - Space Star (box one) will be aiming for seven wins from his last eight starts in his quest to make yet another Group 1 final. He will face in-form raider from New Zealand Know Danger (box four) and classy Meadows chaser Love Affair (box six).

Heat two - Group 1 Galaxy runner up Lady Toy (box one) has drawn favourably. Her rivals include fellow Galaxy placegetter Starc (box three) and star South Australian stayer Psychotic Gold (box five), who was an eye-catching third in last week’s Group 1 Temlee.

Heat three - Group 1 winner Mepunga Hayley (box four) will be looking to win her first race of 2015 against the likes of the emerging Opec Bale (box five), Flying Twist (box three) and the classy Deadly Boy (box six).

Heat four - Group 3 Chairman’s Cup winner Zipping Maggie (box three) takes on Group 1 Rookie Rebel finalist Ralphy Cinel (box five) and SA raider Luna Jinx (box six).

Saturday night will also see the running of eight Group 1 ATC Australian Cup heats, where the best sprinters in the land do battle on one of the best night’s of racing at The Meadows.
