Fabio the one to beat in Group 1 Hume Cup

The brilliant My Bro Fabio will be the greyhound to beat in the Group 1 Hume Cup after an outstanding 34.12 heat victory on Saturday night.

The son of Turanza Bale and Flamenco will be looking to win his first race at Group 1 level, and has drawn ideally in box two for the final on Monday, November 3.

The black flash has won six of his last seven starts, including victory in the Canberra Cup in track record time.

His main danger appears to be the Darren McDonald-trained Eliza Blanche, who made the greyhound world stand up and take notice after a sensational come-from-behind 34.19 victory.

Trailing Musquin Bale in the early stages, the daughter of Radley Bale took control down the back straight, eventually powering to a six-length victory, including an outstanding 12.24sec run home. Eliza Blanche will start from box eight in the Group 1 final. Deadly Boy (34.21) was another impressive heat winner, overcoming box five to continue his rich vein of form of late.

Oscura – a kennelmate to my Bro Fabio – also caught the eye, powering to a 34.51 victory after being out of contention in the early stages.

Hume Cup night will also see the running of the Group 3 Silver Bullet, with the Melbourne Cup eve program one of the most popular nights at the Broadmeadows circuit.
