Aussie cricketer James Pattinson is urging people to join him at The Meadows on Saturday night for a massive Big Aussie Barbie, to help raise money for prostate cancer.
The Meadows is the last of Victoria’s greyhound race clubs to host a Big Aussie Barbie event in recent weeks, which comes on the back of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s (PCFA) partnership with Greyhound Racing Victoria, and the night promises to be a huge one with loads of competitions, live music, prizes, exciting racing and a barbeque feast.
Prostate cancer kills more men than breast cancer kills women, however awareness about the former is substantially less. The PCFA works tirelessly at creating awareness about prostate cancer as early detection, which comes about from regular checkups, saves lives.
“Greyhound racing’s Big Aussie Barbie campaign is looking at raising about $50,000 for prostate cancer to go into research and raising awareness, so hopefully everyone can get down to The Meadows on Saturday night,” Pattinson told Daniel Harford on SEN radio this week.

Lucy Brennan, who is organising the Big Aussie Barbie at The Meadows, said the night will be a lot of fun.
“It’s going to a warm Spring night of about 26 degrees. We’ll have a band playing a variety of music, beanbags on the timber deck for people to lounge on and the barbie will be fired up. What more could you want on a Saturday night?” Brennan said.
“We’ll also have some exciting competitions including the Nearest the Pin Golf Challenge where people can purchase a foam golf ball for a gold coin donation, and try to hit it nearest to the pin. It is quite challenging because the balls are very light,” she laughed.
“The Flat Pack Challenge will also be very entertaining as we have bought some items from Ikea and three people will be drawn out and go head-to-head trying to put them together in a 15 minute race. Whoever progresses the furthest in the 15 minute time frame wins a $250 Bunnings voucher.”
