The debate about who is currently the best greyhound stayer in Australia continues to strengthen, creating tremendous interest in Saturday night’s Group 3 Topcat Video Cup final (725m) at The Meadows.
The much talked about rivalry between Sweet It Is and Xylia Allen grew another dimension after new kid on the block Zipping Maggie beat the latter for the second time in the space of seven days last weekend.
Adding further weight to the debate is forgotten stayer Dyna Willow, a former Wentworth Park track record holder who beat Sweet It Is in the other heat on Saturday night in Best of Night fashion.
While it is difficult to recall a time when a better greyhound staying rivalry existed in this country, SEN’s Mark Fine, recently took listeners back to the days of early eighties at Olympic Park where classic staying clashes drew people through the gates by the thousands.
In fact, Fine, who is renowned for his extensive sporting knowledge, spoke from first hand experience.
Listen: SEN’s Mark Fine and GRV’s Andrew Copley discuss all things greyhounds including great staying rivalries.
